Freedom of Movement

Freedom of Movement is one of the key factors in the Montessori Approach. This desire and need begins from birth; parents observe their newborn with deep fascination while watching their child figure out leg and arm movements, control of the head and use of the mouth. Movements such as suckling and rooting begin as reflexes for survival but soon purposeful movements are noticed more each day as the child heads closer to infancy. Before we know it, infants are reaching and crawling all over the house. This is when the Prepared Environment becomes more important than ever and attention to safety is pivotal.
