General Allocation Policy

The following general policies and preferences apply when allocating your child a place with the Hills Montessori School.

  • Your child needs to meet the requirements as governed by the Department Of Community Services or The Department Of Education

  • Siblings of children who currently attend the Hills Montessori School.

  • Siblings of children who have in the past attended the Hills Montessori School for the full 3 years.

  • Children who attend the Hills Montessori Under 3's Playgroup.

  • Siblings of children who have in the past attended the Hills Montessori School for less than the full 3 years.

  • Children transferring from other Montessori Schools.

  • Maintaining an age and sex balance in the groups.

  • Order of application in the waiting list.

  • Children need to turn 3 before the 1st of August to be eligible.

Class Placements for 3 - 6's only

  • Placement of the child in the 3-6 group is based on place rather than a specific classroom

  • Classroom allocations are decided by the Directresses and are advised at time of notification of commencement date

  • Consideration is given to balancing age, sex and other criteria determining allocations

  • The School Council supports the Authorised Supervisor in reserving the right to amend any of these allocations up to the commencement date

  • Commencement dates are determined on a one new child at a time policy. This allows the directress an opportunity to help the child move into the environment with greater ease before another new child commences.

  • From commencement date, there is a provisional period where the child attends only 2 hours a day and during which time, the directress in consultation with the parent will advise the following;

> suitability to attend full session

> continue on a shorter session for an extended period

> attendance be delayed until a more suitable time

  • Siblings of children attending may be placed in a separate class to allow them the opportunity for their own environment.

FEES

Society Membership

Membership of at least one parent in the Society is required when your child is offered a place at the school.

Holding Deposit

A Holding Deposit may be required when your child is offered a place in the 3-6 class.  This amount is non-refundable.

Parent Bond

A parent bond equal to one term's fees is payable prior to a child's commencement in the 3-6 class at the school.  This bond is held to protect the Society against financial loss if a child is withdrawn without the agreed period of notice and to enable, if necessary, overdue fees to be recouped.

Bonds will be returned in full at the end of the child's completed third year.  For those children who leave prior to the completion of the 3 year cycle, consideration is given (less a 10% administration fee) provided two terms written notice is given of the child's withdrawal from the school.

When two or more siblings are attending the school at the same time the following are the rates for parent bonds:100% payable for the eldest child, 50% payable for the second child and no bond payable for the third child.

Donations of bonds are always appreciated at the end of your child's time with us.

Tuition Fees

3-6's fees are usually set annually and are payable per term in advance.

Term one fees are due at the end of term four of the previous year for currently enrolled children, and due on the parents evening in November for new children.

When a child commences in the 3-6's class fees are non-refundable once they are paid.

Under 3's fees are payable by the term in advance.  If a child withdraws, the school is required to be advised to enable us to fill the place as quickly as possible.  There are no refunds for Under 3's fees.

Parent Participation for 3 to 6's

It is necessary that each family understands that their involvement is essential for the school to be successful.  It is not sufficient just to pay school fees. All families must contribute to the school in a meaningful way because without this co-operation from parents the school would not be able to function and fees would be out of reach of many parents.

It is compulsory for each family to participate in the activities at the school each year or pay a levy. It is easy to accumulate Parent Participation hours as they can include working bees, clean-up, council duties and other activities as announced-some of which are often done at home.

Equipment / Maintenance Levy

A levy per family is payable each year over 4 terms with a reduced pro-rata fee for children commencing in terms 3 and 4.  This levy enables the school to replace and upgrade our classroom equipment and to meet specific OH & S requirements.
